During the summer of 1993, I did a series of watercolour paintings in the Leaside area of Toronto near where I lived. On Saturdays, I would take my then baby son for a stroll to chart out locations. On Sundays I’d return with my easel and paints and set up right on streetcorners. I imagined that I was living in the time of Van Gogh and Cezanne, when ‘plein air’ painting was in style. Dealing with the wind, the sun and sometimes rain made painting outside very exciting!
